MORE PICTURES

Maligne Canyon is one of the most interesting hikes in the Rockies. Deep canyon walls, multi-colored rock, several waterfals pouring into narrow caverns and all on paved trails.

The canyon has fascinated geologists for decades. How old and how did it form are two of the questions they are trying to answer. It is possible to visit the canyon in the winter when the waterfalls become "frozen in time". Some adventurers will climb the falls.

The canyon is on the same road as the Jasper Park Lodge and is 11 kilometers East of Jasper (15 minute easy drive). 16 kilometers past the turnoff for Maligne Canyon is Medicine Lake.
