Canoe or Kayak Alberta
Alberta is known for its waterways. We have tranquil
and peaceful lakes and rivers in the Rockies that will keep
you coming back. If you have a speedboat or seadoo leave it
at home. These lakes protect the environment
and nourish wildlife.
Canoe/Kayak Jasper
The Jasper area is a canoeists' delight. There
twenty or more lakes where you will see wildlife in tranquil
settings. Easily accessible by vehicle with easy parking are
the Five Lakes including Lac Beauvert, Patricia
and Patricia Lakes, Edith and Annette Lakes (you may see Scuba
divers here on the weekend!). Horseshoe
Lake is a little known but absolutely beautiful spot to
the south of Jasper The lake is a very short hike from the parking
lot and highway.
Pyramid Lake and Patricia Lake (very close to each other) both
have rentals. Pyramid Lake is
especially tranquil, complete with its own "almost island".
Fairmont Jasper Park Lodge has rentals
as well.
47 kilometers southeast of Jasper is Maligne
Lake, second largest glacial lake in the World. Rentals
are available here and you can canoe the considerable length
of the lake if you like.

Canoe/Kayak
Banff
In the Banff townsite area you can put your paddle in the water
at Two Jack Lake or Johnson Lake. If you want to rent a canoe/kayak
Lake Louise (what a beautiful spot) and Moraine Lake both have
boathouses.
For experienced canoers (not for novices) we recommend a downstream
run on the Bow River but only in the spring when water levels
are high. There are rapids and wildlife sightings that the hearty
canoeist will enjoy thoroughly. Check with Banff tourist office
before heading out.
