Alberta
Alberta has mountains,
Big Mountains. And this is what rock climbers look for. At present,
there are no permits required to climb mountains however you should
register with the Banff Warden's Office (403-522-1220). However
it is recommended that you hire a guide. Contact the Association
of Canadian Mountain Guides (403-678-2885). In Banff contact sports
shops such as the Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise or the Post Hotel).
Mountain Climbing Jasper
Mount Robson is the premiere climb in the Canadian
Rockies as it is the tallest mountain in the Rockies. It is located
just inside the British Columbia border. Mount Athabasca, parent
of one the Columbia Icefield's glaciers is also popular. We recommend
a guided trip, so call Alpine Club of Canada at (403-678-3200

Columbia Icefields
Hiking/climbing the Columbia Icefields is very
dangerous and should not be attempted by novices.

Climbing Banff
Favorite spots for rock climbing in the Banff area include "Back
of the Lake" at Lake Louise,
where you see incomparable views of Lake Louise. Also consider
the "Tower of Babel" near Moraine
Lake.

Canmore area Mountain
Climbing
The Canmore area is well set-up for rock climbing. Popular climbs
include Heart Creek Grotto Canyon and Grassi Lake. The Yamnuska
