Rockclimbing Alberta
Alberta has mountains, Big Mountains. And this is what rock climbers look for. At present, there are no permits required to climb mountains however you should register with the Banff Warden's Office (403-522-1220). However it is recommended that you hire a guide. Contact the Association of Canadian Mountain Guides (403-678-2885). In Banff contact sports shops such as the Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise or the Post Hotel).

Mountain Climbing Jasper
Mount Robson is the premiere climb in the Canadian Rockies as it is the tallest mountain in the Rockies. It is located just inside the British Columbia border. Mount Athabasca, parent of one the Columbia Icefield's glaciers is also popular. We recommend a guided trip, so call Alpine Club of Canada at (403-678-3200 situated in Canmore). You can also talk to the folks at Gravity Gear Mountaineering Shop at 618 Patricia Street, 780-852-3155)

Favorite spots for rock climbing in the Banff area include "Back of the Lake" at Lake Louise, where you see incomparable views of Lake Louise. Also consider the "Tower of Babel" near Moraine Lake.
